I want to let you into a secret…

I’ve discovered the most amazing range of skincare products, that are the No 1 brand in Japan.  It’s called Hada Labo and it’s available in the UK at Superdrug and Amazon.

Price-wise the range is very competitive, and I’ve yet to try one of the products that I haven’t loved.  Here is some information from Hada Labo that I found fascinating, and I hope you will too:

Nearly half of women don’t have a skin care routine that they follow every day, according to new research* by Japan’s top-selling skin care brand, Hada Labo Tokyo. This is despite the fact that 45% of women admit that they had noticed their skin changing as they age with 40% saying it appeared drier and 68% noticing more wrinkles and lines.*  The reason for the lack of skin care routine? For 39% of women, it’s due to a lack of time, whereas 26% claim that they don’t actually need a routine at all.

Speaking about the importance of maintaining a correct and consistent skin care routine, Aesthetics skin care specialist Dr Noman Mohamed and a member of the Hada Labo Tokyo Skin Care Panel, says the three essential stages of a routine – cleanse, hydrate and moisturise – play an essential role in supporting skin to keep it hydrated, plump, youthful and smooth.

“With just 52%* of women saying they have a skin care routine that they follow every day, so many of us are putting our skin at risk of dehydration and accelerated ageing. While dietary habits and UV light do have an impact on our skin’s hydration levels, our skin care routine is also vital,” he says.

Plus, the latest Hada Labo Tokyo research has found that a staggering 75% of women notice skin changes throughout the seasons too.

Dr Mohamed adds: “The key ingredient for keeping skin hydrated is hyaluronic acid, a hydration hero and a key ingredient in Hada Labo’s skin care range. As we age, our body’s levels of hyaluronic acid fall. If you consider that one-third of hyaluronic acid is found in the skin, with hyaluronic acid levels halving by the time we’re 50, then this is naturally going to have a significant impact on hydration levels.”

The Hada Labo Tokyo real-world data shows that 58% of women have researched how to care for their skin yet only 38% of women know that hyaluronic acid (HA) is important for the skin.

FACT: Our skin – the body’s largest organ Our skin is an organ, the biggest one at that, and much like other organs in the body, the skin’s tissue is made up of many types of cells, which all need water to function properly.

Dr Mohamed explains further that our skin is made up of three prominent layers: the epidermis, the dermis and the subcutaneous layer.

“The top layer – the epidermis – is always regenerating and the very top layer of the epidermis – the stratum corneum – is continually worn away or shed. Melanocytes – cells in the skin – produce the pigment, melanin, which protects against UV radiation and gives skin its colour.”

“The next layer of our skin, the dermis, contains sweat glands, hair follicles and our sebaceous glands; the glands that produce oily sebum. The dermis layer holds a lot of water. The layer under the dermis is the subcutaneous layer, which contains insulating fat and connective tissue,” notes Dr Noman Mohamed.

The expert-approved skin care routine to fight ageing.  Did you know that skin care products (such as those containing HA) often only work on the top layer of the skin? However, Hada Labo Tokyo has created skin care innovation that hydrates all skin layers thanks to HA technology that Japanese scientists have created.

“The Hada Labo Red and White line range contains three to four types of hydrating hyaluronic acid. ” says Dr Mohamed. “The white line contains Sodium Hyaluronate (standard HA), which can replace some of the water lost in the epidermis; Sodium acetylated hyaluronate (Super HA) to retain moisture in the epidermis and keep skin moist for longer periods of time; Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid (nano), a hyaluronic acid broken into smaller bits for deeper skin penetration; and Hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate, which helps bond active ingredients into the skin.

“In the Hada Labo red line, Hydroxypropyltrimonium hyaluronate is replaced with Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer (Macro HA), which creates a “sponge” effect, restoring skin to its more youthful appearance and smoothing out fine lines.”

Cleanse… According to the insightful Hada Labo Tokyo research* 18% of us only use a cleanser when they feel they need it.

A shocking 8% say they never cleanse! “Cleansing cleans the skin. It’s an effective way of removing dirt, grime and make-up that has built up over the day, so you provide a clear base for the next layer of products. ” says Dr Mohamed.

The Hada Labo Tokyo Gentle Hydrating Cleanser contains three types of HA, formulated to cleanse, protect and lock in moisture, leaving skin silky smooth.

Hydrate… “As we know, hydration is vital to keep skin youthful. This is where HA comes into its own. ” reveals Dr  Mohamed.

From the Hada Labo white line, try Hada Labo Tokyo’s Super Hydrator Lotion; a light lotion that penetrates the skin within seconds. With deeply moisturising active ingredients, including Super Hyaluronic Acid, it seals hydration inside the skin, stopping water from evaporating, to hold back the appearance of wrinkles.

The Hada Labo Anti-Ageing Super Hydrator Lotion from the Japanese brand’s red line, is power-packed as it contains four types of HA, offering multi-layer hydration, plus anti-ageing ingredients collagen and retinol.

“After cleansing, pat the lotion over your face, neck and decolletage for a hit of hydration. ” says Dr Mohamed.

There’s also the Hada Labo Tokyo Intense Hydrating Skin Plumping Gel, a luxuriously delicate gel which works as a cream and a serum. A high concentration of Super Hyaluronic Acid makes it intensely moisturising, filling in the skin to create a smooth, ultra-soft complexion. It’s also important to keep the thinner, more delicate skin around our eyes hydrated. A worrying 22% of people do not care for the skin around their eyes, according to the research.

Hada Labo Tokyo Smoothing Anti Fatigue Eye Cream intensely moisturises and smoothes the skin around the eyes. Super Hyaluronic Acid reduces wrinkles and signs of fatigue, collagen and pink silk tree extract rejuvenate and firm the skin, and caffeine eliminates under-eye circles and puffiness.   Hada Labo Tokyo Anti-Ageing Eye & Mouth Cream is ideal after cleansing in the morning and at night. “It’s filled with four types of hyaluronic acid, collagen – a form of protein needed to keep skin firm – and retinol – a derivative of vitamin A for healthy cells. Pat it around the eyes and mouth to help reduce deeper wrinkles. ” explains Dr Mohamed.

Moisturise… Moisturiser is an essential part of a skin care routine, helping to keep our skin ‘well-watered’.

Morning and evening are key times to apply moisturiser, after cleansing, on clean, fresh skin. However, the Hada Labo Tokyo research has found that 7% of women never use a moisturiser in the morning and double this (14%) never use a moisturiser in the evening either. Hada Labo Tokyo also has a solution for those who fancy a cream that works both morning and night.* Hada Labo Tokyo Anti-Ageing Wrinkle Reducer Day Cream offers multi-layer hydration with four types of HA plus collagen and retinol.

For bedtime, Hada Labo Tokyo Anti-Ageing Repair Night Cream is packed with more than 20 carefully blended active ingredients, including three types of HA, retinol and an intensely regenerating complex of tetrapeptide-5 and collagen to reduce wrinkles and restore radiance and hydration.

Hada Labo Tokyo Absolute Smoothing & Moisturising Cream (Day & Night) has a high concentration of Super Hyaluronic Acid so it can intensely moisturise and smooth the skin, helping to put the brakes on the ageing process.
