Whether or not you’re a real tree person, you have to admit that there is something rather special about the smell of a real Christmas tree.  But even with no tree, all is not lost!

With a bit of help it’s possible to create a whole host of festive scents for the home.

Here are a few suggestions from the luxury to everyday:

Urban Apothecary

Winter Fir is the new candle from this luxury home scent brand, recreating the scent of an evergreen forest with resinous pine needles, fir balsam and fresh eucalyptus leaves with precious woods and incense.

It’s such a beautiful ‘Christmas tree’ scent, in a limited edition version of Urban Apothecary’s signature black glass votives with a forest green label.

Available from urbanapothecary.com for £40.

DS & Durga

DS & Durga’s Portable Xmas Tree candle is wonderfully Christmassy and helps to make it smell like you have a real Christmas tree, even if you don’t.

The brand’s modern Christmas classic has a new smell for 2024 – sweeter, louder and smokier than previous iterations. It takes the fir balsam in a new direction with a very fine quality ambery incense, for a festive and ceremonial result.

The 2024 holiday candles are encased in beautiful black smoked glass, with metallic gold foil labels embossed with black illustrations. £60 from Space NK and dsanddurga.com

Copenhagen Candles

I always think that Scandinavians know what’s what about celebrating Christmas, and who better to supply some fabulous festive scents than Copenhagen Candles

You can transport yourself to a veritable festive wonderland with citrus led scent entwined with a blend of delicious spices including cinnamon and cloves, sweetened with a touch of vanilla and held together with the warm and woody notes of sandalwood and cedar.

There’s a great range of products including diffusers, candles and votives at very reasonable prices on the website here

The Candle Brand

And talking of diffusers…a diffuser with a difference from The Candle Brand.  This multi award winning company produces scented flower diffusers and refills.

Touches such as the fact that paper labels can be planted to grow your own wildflowers are great.  Instead of the usual sticks to infuse, the paper flower bouquets are uniquely fragranced and long lasting and there are a number of special scents for winter.

They’re vegan, cruelty free and safe to use around pets.   £26 online here

Temple of Incense

The Three Kings set at £18 is a collection of 30 sticks in honour of the gifts brought by the Magi.   There are ten sticks of Myrrh, of Frankincense and Nag Champa Gold.  Burn one at a time or all three! www.templeofincense.com
