Yoga, pilates, health and beauty all in one place!
My husband and I had a precious slice of self-care at 50 Hill Rise in Richmond last week. We both have hectic schedules and this was very convenient on Richmond’s high street. Long has this address been established as a venue for yoga, pilates and massage and now it’s in new hands, offering beauty treatments as well.
Hosting classes, workshops and events, seven days a week, the venue has a range of yoga and pilates teachers. I attended a strong class taught by an amazing yoga teacher – Jacky Lampl. I am also a yoga teacher and it was refreshing attending a class instead of teaching one. Jacky is renowned in our field for being an experienced yoga teacher and nutritionist. 50 Hill Rise has other great pilates and yoga teachers (namely Kate Mundie) and is definitely somewhere I will return as a student.
The large studio is a welcome sanctuary with stained glass windows; originally a shirt factory over 100 years ago where the bright light space was just what the tailors needed to work.. Now a calming container for holistic practices.
“You would have no idea that this beautiful room existed unless you had been there. It has a natural peace and restorative energy about it. And there is something quite magical about the south facing stained glass window” says Centre Manager, Nina Ilovicova.
My husband, Tom Tombleson – attended a pilates class in another studio room, held by Halim. Tom said it was good and ‘hard’ which coming from him (as Senior Strength & Conditioning Coach of 10 years with England Rugby) is saying something!
50 Hill Rise is not a ‘members only’ kind of place. Everyone is welcome! There are a range of great value packages and weekly community classes that have a very reasonable ‘drop-in’ price. Osteopathy, physiotherapy, homeopathy and acupuncture are also on offer, as well as a range of alternative treatments and therapies.
“We all lead such busy lives, everyone deserves to escape every once in a while particularly in such a beautiful location” says Beauty Manager, Anna Palmer.
A range of treatment packages are available and we both had the ‘Rest & Refresh Package’ – which consisted of a full body brush, which helps to remove dry and dulling skin cells, boosting circulation; followed by a full body cleansing massage which I could feel was relieving my aching muscles – this type of massage also works to stimulate the lymph and flush away toxins. Then onto the facial with a deep cleanse, exfoliation and then a deep cleansing mask – used to demineralise the skin, leaving it baby-skin smooth!
Unfortunately, we had to leave quickly due to our busy schedules, so we enjoyed our complimentary cleansing herbal tea from the cafe – to take away.
I’ll be heading back there again for the quality classes and the massage was out of this world.. relaxing! I’ve had a lot of massages all over the world and Alex was super nurturing. I felt wonderful afterwards. I’m also keen to try their new beauty offerings when they begin offering luxurious manicure and pedicures.
